SMITH, 34, SAVED AMELIA DIETZ, 55, FROM BEING RUN OVER BY A TRAIN IN MINEOLA, NEW YORK, ON FEBRUARY 7, 1906… ESTABLISHED IN 1904, EARLY MEDALS AWARDED BY THE FUND WERE STRUCK IN BRONZE, SILVER AND GOLD, WITH DISTINCTION OF MEDAL GRADE CONTINGENT ON THE ASSESSMENT OF THE HEROIC ACT BEING RECOGNIZED.
